Lucciolaio 2013

Red
Type: Red

It was a warm night in late May and I was walking with my wife Laura along the dirt road that leads to our cellar, first along a pine forest and then the vineyard surrounding the farm, when to our surprise we found ourselves immersed in a multitude of fireflies that they flew lightly and intermittently illuminated the rows and pines, giving us a magical perception of the nocturnal space.
"What a Lucciolaio!" Laura exclaimed. I liked that word very much, it brought with it many things, many sensations: the magic of that surreal moment, the harmony of the nocturnal landscape not disturbed by the lights of the city, the liveliness of the fireflies, the genuineness of that territory still intact, the confirmation of the goodness of our choice not to use insecticides and harmful substances in the treatment of vineyards.

Grapes: Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon for about 20%; has been in production since 1994.

Vinification: Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes are harvested in different periods to find the best ripeness of each variety, and consequently are vinified separately; for both varieties the primary fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature between 28 and 30 ° for 22-24 days. The assembly of the two wines takes place after aging in barriques, to then allow for a harmonization of the same in the aging phase.

Characteristics: intense ruby red color with garnet hues after several years of aging. Ample bouquet with a complex bouquet of ripe red fruits, forest essences, spices, vanilla and licorice; ample, full, soft, elegant, harmonious, well balanced and very persistent taste.
It keeps and evolves its best characteristics for many years, being able to withstand a long aging (18-25 years).

Serving temperature: 20 ° C.

Pairings: ideal for grilled red meats, roasted and stewed game, wild boar alla maremmana, jugged game, seasoned and savory cheeses. It can also be enjoyed as a meditation wine.
