Tenuta Gatto is a family-run business that extends, with its own vineyards, on the hills of Larderia (ME) at 400 meters above sea level.
The company was founded in 2007 from an intuition of Matteo and his son Santi, who take up the tradition of their ancestors winemakers by producing the red Doc Faro Chiano Conti, the white Igt Terre Siciliane Ardalìa, the latter obtained from white vinification of Nerello Mascalese is the Mussarussi flavored wine obtained by applying an ancient Messina recipe called "amarena".
The fund faces south with about forty slightly curved terraces with an average height of 1.5 m. The cultivation system of the chosen vineyard is espalier with spurred cordon to benefit from the positive influence of the climatic conditions and in particular of the sun exposure and winds from both the mistral and the strait of Messina currents. The dry stone walls of the terraces also contribute to this benefit as the material used is stone which absorbs heat in the hot day hours and releases it in the night. Agricultural activity is based on the use of organic natural fertilizers (earthworm humus), limiting the use of chemical treatments to the maximum, carrying out green pruning and thus eliminating excess bunches and shoots in order to limit attacks by parasites and improve the quality. The processing, due to the difficulty of moving the machines, is done manually and in the family, so as to be considered heroic viticulture.
In addition, every single plant is meticulously cared for so that it can best express its potential for the production of fine wines that have a limited number of bottles per year.
