Barolo Ascheri 2015

Type: Red

Older vines ( CRU Ascheri), higher altitude, lower yields and a bit of new wood - that is the difference between this and the Barolo del comune di La Morra. The result is noticeable and appreciable. This one hectare block was planted in 1969, 330 meter in elevation. The winemaking and elevage are essentially the same with two new barriques being tossed into the mix. The soil composition is a bit denser than the normale, which is unusual given its higher elevation.
The wine is 100% destemmed and fermented in concrete tanks with 60 days of maceration on skins and frequent punch downs. It is then racked into primarily seasoned barriques and botti for 30 months prior to bottling.

A great value with ripe layers of dark fruit, cherry, Indian spice and dried rose petal. It puts all its cards out there for you to read but with a solid skeleton of structure and the skin of tight tannins. The mouthfeel is sweeping and wide and the finish is laden with lovely softness and ripe fruit.
